Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Wilder
The striker is now a member of Sheffield United just seven months after instigating insulting songs directed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds finished amicably in August.
Among Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting offensive songs about Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion party this spring. Currently, the one-cap England international will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to rescue his beloved club away from the drop zone.
Previous Conflict Between the Striker & the Manager
The pair had a past prior to Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward

Chris Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Challenges
Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season however the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
