The Manager's Stance on The Scottish Club

The Ipswich boss referred to the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in recent years and led them to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only four games last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"I have not had such conversations," the English capital native ex- Northern Ireland young player said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any part of my focus is currently.

"I possess a unique job here at a remarkable team. And we're at a really important stage of the campaign. Anything external hasn't reached my radar."

Background and Contractual Aspects

It has been suggested that McKenna would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about those. "It's unlikely everyone has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive football club."

McKenna agreed to a new four-year contract in last year and was questioned about his alleged £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are things," he responded. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this job like I'll be Town's coach indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as while I am here."

Bellamy's Position

Bellamy represented Celtic on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Wales striker is inclined to complete the ongoing World Cup qualification, a position that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their qualifying group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in next month would book their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, due to a successful European competition performance, even if they not end up Group J runners-up.

Given his present position, Bellamy, whose contract concludes after the European Championship, would not be available until following the qualifying matches at the earliest.
